ABYSMAL DAWN follow up their acclaimed 2020 album Phylogenesis with the Nightmare Frontier EP, a searing four-track showcase of the Los Angeles group’s boundary-pushing technical death metal. The release features a brand-new original song, a re-recorded version of their 2006 demo track “Blacken the Sky,” and two epic cover songs that reveal the band’s considerable range.
Produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Charles Elliott at Tastemaker Audio (Los Angeles, CA)—with drums captured at Trench Studios (Corona, CA) by John Haddad—the EP bristles with precision, brutality, and atmospheric undertones. One cover, “Behind Space,” includes a dramatic orchestral arrangement from Craig Peters (Destroying the Devoid, Deeds of Flesh), adding further depth to ABYSMAL DAWN’s already formidable sound. Rounding out the release is mesmerizing cover art by Pär Olofsson, layout by AJ Loeb, and photography by Rodrigo Fredes.
Released on February 4, 2022, Nightmare Frontier affirms ABYSMAL DAWN’s status as top-tier purveyors of modern technical death metal, delivering an unrelenting fusion of high-velocity riffs, punishing drums, and visceral intensity—now presented in a collectible CD EP Digipak format
